Lacrosse players require a high muscle percentage of bodyweight to cope with the aggressive physical contact of the game. However, a higher than average bodyweight must be combined with a low body fat percentage, as players are required to maneuver quickly around the field of play. Lacrosse players tend to have a lower body fat percentage compared to other athletes such as football, basketball, and ice hockey players. Lacrosse players are one of the few groups of athletes that will benefit from a phase of hypertrophy functional strength training as it related to specific muscles involved in playing the game of lacrosse where the overall objective is to gain an increase in lean muscle mass. Most importantly, in the game of lacrosse size is not the only objective! Maximal functional lacrosse strength, explosive power, lacrosse agility, and power endurance are also important outcomes of a lacrosse specific training program.
